Folks I have been riding with the Gretna Police Department and Jefferson Parish Sheriffs Office boats on the north side of Barataria Bay. The staging area is at a Jack Up Barge at the Barataria Waterway and Barataria Bay on the north side of the bay. To many boats and men to count are working to save the inland waters from the oil. All boats and men working the boom are commercial fishermen, shrimpers, crabbers, oyster fisherman and charter fishing guides, mostly all from Lafitte, LA. Boom has been put out in Jefferson Parish from this staging area from the Lafouche Parish line to the Plaquemines Parish line on the north side of Barataria Bay. Oil is in the area but is south of the boom. The oil we have seen is a combination of patties of oil floating on the water and very light sheens of oil.
As for fishing, the fishing remains great on the east side of the Miss. River in the opened areas. Limits of Speckled Trout are being boated daily by most fishermen.

BEAUTIFUL DAY ON THE WATER YESTERDAY!
On Tuesday May 18 I had the pleasure to guide the Waits Family, Randy, Lynn, Bianca, and Elliot. The family has fished with me for years and wanted to come out at this time of crisis and show their support for their favorite guide.
We left out of the Delta Marina in Empire, LA and fished on the west side of the Miss. River. The weather was as pretty as it gets. The tide was coming in very strong all morning at approx. 2 ft. making the bite slow. Late morning near the change of tide when the water slowed up a bit we really got on a steady bite. The specks were all quality size fish with many in the three pound class. Randy, Lynn, Bianca and Elliot put approx 60 fine Specks in the boat along with one Redfish and a Black Drum.
Randy, Lynn, Bianca and Elliot it was alot of fun to have you all on the boat. THANKS AGAIN!

Hello to all. Here are a few pictures from last year's fishing season.
I have a few days still open in May, if anyone is interested. Hopefully the wind will calm down next month.
Thanks,

Grand Isle Offshore Action
After a long cold, wet winter the Gulf is finally heating up and with it comes the fish.
This past week , you name it, it has come to life. Mangroves are swarming at the rig legs along with a bizillion red snapper, that makes them hard to catch. Cobia were caught this week. Is it the early migration or some of our resident dwellers? Who cares they are here. The tuna have settled into the summer pattern at the deepwater platforms and giving some great topwater action.
Spring has sprung. Red Snapper season opens June 1, 2010 but you only have 54 days so get them while you can. Amberjack looks like it is going to close at the end of July so again, get them while you can.
We are going to try to add more swordfish to the dock, this year. Great action and wonderful eating.

Ran back into the Louisiana Marsh with Joe, Kenny, JD and Shawn. We made on stop for the trout and the moved into the nearest pond for the Reds. Folks say this is a time of year for "Transition Fishin'". So it was, the day started with thousands of white trout and then slowly the Speckled Trout started moving in. Before we knew it we had a box of hundreds of fish with about 68 of them being Specks. We moved into a pond and sight casted eight Redfish before heading back to the dock for a big cleaning. All of the fish were school trout. Our location was very close to the launch near a canal named for a Saint. If you know the spot, go get em, if you don't call BIGFISH and let us take you there. |

David Montz from Seabrook Harbor invited friends in town from Florida to do a little BIGFISHin'. Along with son Jonah, the five of us headed off into the Biloxi Wildlife Management area. The first stop was a good one. The bite started slow but picked up nicely. With plans to make a short day, we knocked out 52 trout and went looking for Redfish. Throwing corks with Berkley Gulp along the shoreline of a favorite pond, we pulled out 8 Redfish and headed back to the dock.
An easy day and a great catch with a fun group. BIGFISH has lodging right across from the Breton Sound Marina and a first class charter service. Give us a call, (504) BIG-FISH. |
